Officially Launches Cross-Border Payment via QR Code in Vietnam

Phnom Penh, March 24, 2023 - ACLEDA Bank Plc., the first listed Commercial Bank in Cambodia, hereby announces that it officially launches Cross-Border Payment via QR Code in Vietnam in order to promote the wide use of Khmer Riel for settlement in ASEAN region and financial inclusion in line with integration of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
Dr. In Channy, President & Group Managing Director of ACLEDA Bank Plc., said that after success of Bakong which ACLEDA Bank is a member and assigning as the sponsoring bank from National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), ACLEDA Bank continues to expand mission the cross-border QR payment to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam after successfully launching cross-border QR payment in Thailand since February 2020.
ACLEDA Bank and Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) are selected to be the Settlement Banks for Cross-Border QR Payment for Vietnamese customers to make payment in Cambodia in VND via KHQR code and for ACLEDA Bank's customers (Bakong member bank customers) to make payment in Vietnam in KHR via VietQR code. With the Cross-Border Payment between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Kingdom of Cambodia, ACLEDA Bank and BIDV have been chosen for playing the important role in Cross-Border QR Payment between the two countries in order to promote the wide use of KHR for settlement in the two countries as well as ASEAN region and financial inclusion in line with integration of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC)".
He added that ACLEDA Bank now successfully launches the cross border QR payment in Vietnam. It allows the customers and the public to purchase goods and make payments in the KHR in Vietnam even more convenient and secured. It is also convenient means for Cambodians travelling to Vietnam for making payment through QR Code without using cash. The next step, ACLEDA Bank will extend cross-border QR payment to the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) in order to promote the wide use of the KHR in ASEAN.
