Cross-border QR payment between Cambodia and Thailand reaches KHR 52 million per day

On June 6, 2023, the National Bank of Cambodia and the Bank of Thailand announced the official launch of the second phase of cross-border QR payments between Cambodia and Thailand, which allows Thai people traveling to Cambodia to scan QR for making payments like Cambodian traveling to Thailand.
Until now, it has been more than three years since Cambodia and Thailand allowed the launch of a cross-border QR payments through QR code, enabling customers using ACLEDA mobile in Cambodia to scan QR in Thailand up to KHR 52 million per day, while the number of transactions per day is unlimited.
Dr. IN Channy, President and Group Managing Director of ACLEDA Bank Plc., said that since ACLEDA Bank Plc. is appointed by the National Bank of Cambodia for cross-border payments with Thailand on February 18, 2020, the payment transactions have increased significantly. Because now ACLEDA mobile users can scan QR to pay for goods and services in Thailand up to KHR 52 million per day (from wallet account: KHR 12 million and bank account: KHR 40 million).
From February 2020 to May 2023, the number of payment transactions reached 9,555 and the total amount was approximately THB 27 million.
He added that Cambodia has now received payment from Thai banks customers to scan on the Khmer Riel KHQR of banks in Cambodia who is a member of Bakong, which currently has 48 banks/financial institutions.
He added that in order to scan QR in Thailand, customers need to have Khmer Riel account and Thai merchants have the ThaiQR/PromptPay logo of five banks in Thailand: Kasikorn Bank, KrungThai Bank, Bangkok Bank, Bank of Ayudhya and Siam Commercial Bank.
He added that in Cambodia, there are three sponsoring banks (ACLEDA Bank Plc., Cambodian Commercial Bank, and Foreign Trade Bank of Cambodia) to support customers for cross-border payment transactions between Cambodia and Thailand.
Please note that the service fee for cross-border payment transaction between Khmer Scan Thai and Thai Scan Khmer is free of charge.
